It seems to be that there is going to be a lot of these two featured in my 365 this year.  I guess the three of us are mostly home together during the day while the other kids are at school.  And it’s fun, because Chelise is getting old enough to play and she loves it.  Plenty of giggles erupt from her!  Malakai was dragging her around by her feet in circles on the carpet and she thought it was a hoot!

Malakai and Ashton were hilarious with these.  They got the idea off Curious George, and Kent was into it!  They went together to buy some cheap mirrors and craft these little ‘spy’ contraptions.  Rustle rustle, giggle giggle, as these little things were poking around the corners checking out the action in the next room.

The need to go somewhere…..that feeling can be strong sometimes.  We are fairly limited on what we can do as a family this winter with Kent’s back but this was easy.  It just required me making a dinner to-go, warmly bundled kids, a sled and a few other bits, and a short drive to the barn.  And a rush against the clock because I wanted to get there while the light was nice so I could take photo’s!!20150129BarnPicnic-1220150129BarnPicnic-16

We settled in for our picnic dinner – vegies and a good ol’ kiwi favourite……bacon and egg pie.20150129BarnPicnic-2020150129BarnPicnic-2120150129BarnPicnic-2520150129BarnPicnic-2720150129BarnPicnic-33And a quick portait before we headed off for some cold weather shenanigans20150129BarnPicnic-43The kids found a patch of ice, and we played sliding games until it got dark.  They were much annoyed when I told them it was time to go.20150129BarnPicnic-6020150129BarnPicnic-71

It amazes me how quickly times have changed.  The older three were born in the time that a tablet device wasn’t yet ‘normal’.  And for this little guy he is learning his numbers and letters without my help, which is pretty handy.  But it also makes me kinda lazy.

The older girls love to exercise their big-sister-muscles.  And I’m glad, because it makes a real difference around here.

Malakai, Neika and I went skiing for the afternoon.  SO pleased to have Mr M get his ski legs back after a bit of a wobbly start to the season.  He is ripping it up with his snowplough on the deer and elk runs.

Fresh air is a necessity in the winter.  Sometimes it’s hard to think up things to do with the kids when it’s really cold though. But it was balmy today so we went for a walk on a trail called Lazy Lizard.  I walked with Chelise in the backpack on the way in, and pulled her on the sled on the way out, which she thought was a hoot!

One of the things that I like about having a larger than average family, is that there is more potential for different combinations of kids.  Lots of times they will all play together, but more often than not, the girls hang out together and the boys hang out together…..one combination is more mellow, and one is more crazy.  I’ll let you guess which one matches what grouping!!

On our snowy walk today they mixed it up a bit.  Sequoia and Ashton teamed up, and Neika and Malakai were their own gang, and there was no crossing over.  I enjoyed the change!
