Sequoia and Neika both qualified to participate in the district track meet.  This is Neika getting second in the 400m.  She also got 3rd in high jump, and she led her relay team to 1st place.  Sequoia won high jump and triple jump.  I totally enjoy watching the kids participate.  So fun.

And we get to share it with others 🙂  We have friends visiting from the States, from when I was an exchange student more than 20 years ago!  We were hoping to take them to Island Lake for a picnic dinner but when we got to the gate it was locked.  Bummer.  But this is not bad, for 2nd best!!

Annual school track and field day.  My composition sucks (chopped off legs, and too close to the front of the frame!) but I love this pic the most.  The grade 3-6 kids compete, and both girls did awesome, coming home with a fist full of ribbons including a bunch of first’s.

What a super duper day out!  I love going and watching the annual track and field event.  The little kids and I were vehicle-less today so we had to ride our bikes, and with all our mucking around I showed up at the gym and Sequoia had just finished (and won) the high jump.  So bummed to miss seeing her.  She got her Dad’s genes.  She always does really well at this.20150604TracknFieldNeika at Triple Jump…..20150604TracknField-1720150604TracknField-21She won!!20150604TracknField-31100m Sprint20150604TracknField-3620150604TracknField-38She won that too.20150604TracknField-40Sequoia’s 400m.  I can’t remember where she got in that!!20150604TracknField-4120150604TracknField-4420150604TracknField-46Sequoia’s triple jump.  She won!!20150604TracknField-6220150604TracknField-78Neika’s 400m win20150604TracknField-6820150604TracknField-77And last and not least Sequoia’s 800m20150604TracknField-83

I overheard a mother complaining about how this day is torture for some kids and how she wished they didn’t give placing’s but rather just finishing awards.  I have to say that I completely disagree.  I think it is so important for us to feel we are successful in certain parts of our life.  Most of us can’t be good at everything.  But at least something!  For a lot of kids (some of ours included), they don’t experience success in academic’s and these kind of events give opportunity for other gifts and abilities to shine.  I was so happy that the girls could participate, and feel the satisfaction of doing well.
